Who we are

Simple Engineers LLC operates simpleengineers.com. For visitors in the EU, the UK and Switzerland we are the "controller" of the personal data described here. For visitors in US states with consumer privacy laws we are the "business" or "controller" depending on the state.

This policy covers this website. It does not cover work we do under a signed agreement with a client, where the contract and any data processing agreement govern instead.

What we collect

Three categories, and nothing else. There is no account system on this site, no login, and no payment processing.

A per-visit engagement scoreVisitor insightsPrioritize which enquiries a person looks at first

Our hosting provider, AWS, also records standard server access logs containing IP addresses, requested URLs and user agents. These are a security and operations necessity rather than a marketing tool, and we do not use them to build profiles.

We also process your IP address on our own servers, briefly and in memory only, to rate limit form submissions and block automated abuse. It is not stored, not written to disk and not linked to anything you submit.

If you use the "Text us" link, your message and phone number reach us through our telephone provider. Texting us is always your choice, and the prefilled message shows you exactly what will be sent before you send it.

The three assessment tools score your answers entirely in your browser. Your answers to the questions are never transmitted to us. What is sent is the contact details you choose to enter, the numeric score and its category, which tool produced it, and a random per-tool session identifier.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
  • We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising. This site runs no advertising pixels: no Meta Pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no Google Ads tags.
  • We do not use your IP address to look up your city or your employer. An earlier version of this site sent visitor IP addresses to a third-party geolocation service. That was removed in August 2026 and no third party receives your IP address from this site any more.
  • We do not detect or record whether you use an ad blocker.
  • We do not collect special category or sensitive personal information: no racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health data, sexual orientation, precise geolocation, government identifiers or biometrics.
  • We do not use automated decision-making that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you. The engagement score decides which enquiry a human reads first, nothing more.
  • We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

The legal basis column applies to visitors covered by the GDPR or the UK GDPR. US state laws do not use this framework, but the purposes are the same.

Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as giving it. See Your choices.

Who else sees it

We use a small number of service providers. Each acts as our processor, is permitted to use the data only to provide their service to us, and is named here so you can read their own policies.

ProviderWhat they receiveWhy
Google (Google Analytics 4)Pages viewed, device and browser, country-level location derived from your IP, and the analytics identifiers described in our Cookie PolicySite analytics, only with your consent
Slack Technologies (Salesforce)Enquiry and assessment submissions, and internal visit alertsOur team is notified of new enquiries in Slack
Discord Inc.The same notifications as above, as a backup channelRedundant alerting
Amazon Web Services (Amplify Hosting)Standard server access logs, including IP address and user agentHosting and delivery of this site
Our business email providerAnything you email us, including job applications and their attachments, and any privacy request you sendReceiving and replying to email
Grasshopper (GoTo)Your phone number and the content of any text message you send usOur business phone and SMS line

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, to enforce our rights, or in connection with a merger or sale of the business. If that happens we will update this policy.

Data sharing

  • Customer data is not shared with 3rd parties for promotional or marketing purposes.
  • Mobile opt-in and consent are never shared with anyone for any purpose. Any information sharing that may be mentioned elsewhere in this policy excludes mobile opt-in data.

Text messaging: how you opt in and opt out

We do not send unsolicited texts, and we have no way to text you unless you text us first. There is no form on this site that signs you up for messages, and we do not buy, rent or upload phone number lists.

How you opt in
You text our number, +1 (888) 966-0773, from your own phone. Anywhere we invite that, a "Text us" button opens your own messaging app with a draft you can read, edit or discard before sending. Nothing is sent until you send it. Sending us that first message is your consent to receive replies.
What you get
Replies from a person about the question you asked, and nothing else. This is conversational support, not a marketing list. There is no recurring campaign, no newsletter and no promotional messaging, so frequency depends entirely on the conversation you started.
How you opt out
Reply STOP at any time and we will confirm you have been unsubscribed and stop texting you. You can also simply stop replying. Reply HELP for assistance, or email privacy@simpleengineers.com.
Cost
We do not charge for texting us, but message and data rates from your own carrier may apply. Check your plan if you are unsure.
Who sees it
Your number and the content of your messages reach us through Grasshopper (GoTo), our phone provider. Your consent to receive texts is never shared with anyone, for any purpose.

The formal terms for this program are immediately below, and they take precedence if anything above is ever unclear.

Simple Engineers LLC Messaging Terms and Conditions

  1. The messaging program consists of general conversational messaging to answer questions and provide support to customers.
  2. You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text 'STOP' to the phone number from which you received messages. After you send the SMS message 'STOP' to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.
  3. If you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the keyword HELP for more assistance, or you can get help directly at privacy@simpleengineers.com.
  4. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  5. As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. Message frequency will vary based on communication needs. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.
  6. If you have any questions regarding privacy, please read our privacy policy contained in the rest of this document/page.

How long we keep it

DataRetention
Enquiries and assessment submissionsKept in our Slack and Discord workspaces, and in our own records, for up to 24 months from our last contact with you. Deleted sooner on request.
Job applicationsUp to 12 months from when we receive them, unless you ask us to delete yours sooner.
Google Analytics dataOur Analytics property is configured to a 14 month retention period, after which Google deletes it.
Visitor insights stored in your browserSession keys are cleared when you close the tab. The visit counter and engagement profile persist in your browser until you withdraw consent or clear your browser storage. Withdrawing consent deletes them immediately.
Text messagesKept in our phone system for up to 24 months from our last contact with you. Deleted sooner on request.
Consent record (se_consent cookie)180 days, after which we ask again.
Server access logsPer our hosting provider's standard log retention.

We should be direct about one practical limit: enquiries arrive as messages in Slack and Discord, which are chat systems rather than a database. Deleting your information means locating and deleting those messages. We do that on request, and we have a documented internal procedure for it, but it is a manual process rather than an automatic one.

How we protect it

No site can promise perfect security. These are the specific measures in place rather than a general reassurance:

  • All traffic is served over HTTPS, with HTTP Strict Transport Security enforced.
  • Form submissions are rate limited by IP address. This raises the cost of automated abuse rather than making it impossible, and we would rather describe it accurately than oversell it.
  • Submissions carry a hidden honeypot field so bot traffic is dropped rather than delivered.
  • Requests to our internal endpoints are rejected unless they originate from this site.
  • Text you submit is escaped before it reaches Slack or Discord, so it cannot inject content into an internal alert.
  • Browser features we do not need (camera, microphone, geolocation) are switched off at the header level, and this site cannot be embedded in a frame elsewhere.
  • There is no server-side email sending on this site and no visitor database, so there is far less to breach than a typical marketing site.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a portable copy of your personal information, to opt out of analytics and profiling, to appeal if we refuse a request, and not to be treated worse for exercising any of these.

We honor these rights for every visitor, wherever you live, rather than checking your state first. Full detail and how to submit a request: Your privacy choices and rights.

Cookies and browser storage

When we detect an EU, UK or Swiss visit, we ask first and store nothing non-essential until you choose. We work that out from your browser's timezone and language rather than from your IP address, which is deliberate (it means no location lookup happens) but also approximate, so a VPN or travel can put you in the wrong mode. If that happens, the controls below apply to you either way. Elsewhere, analytics and visitor insights start on and you can switch them off at any time, and we automatically honor a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser without you asking.

Every cookie and storage key is itemized by name, purpose and duration in our Cookie and Tracking Policy.

International transfers

We are based in the United States and this site is hosted there, so information you send us is processed in the United States. If you are in the EU, the UK or Switzerland, that is a transfer outside your home jurisdiction.

Our providers are US companies. Transfers rely on the appropriate safeguards available to each provider, which for the major cloud and communications vendors is either certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions, or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us which mechanism applies to a specific provider and we will tell you.

If you are in the EU, the UK or Switzerland

Simple Engineers LLC is established in the United States and has no establishment, branch or office in the EU, the UK or Switzerland. Where the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies to our processing, we comply with it, and the rights in the section above are available to you.

You also have the right to complain to your supervisory authority. In the EU that is the data protection authority for your country, in the UK it is the Information Commissioner's Office, and in Switzerland it is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner. We would rather you contacted us first at privacy@simpleengineers.com, but that is your choice and not a precondition.

Children

This is a business-to-business site and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, email privacy@simpleengineers.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

When we change what we collect or who we send it to, we update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. If a change materially reduces your privacy we will ask for fresh consent rather than relying on the old one.

Questions about any of this: privacy@simpleengineers.com.
